Deep rest is so much more than the odd bubble bath or early night. It is about finding time for you, developing replenishing practices that fit into your life, and setting strong boundaries to make yourself a priority. This course is designed to help you find your inner peace through short but effective practices that can be done in your lunch break. Each week you will receive one Restorative Yoga practice and one Yoga Nidra practice straight to your inbox.
What is Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra?
In Restorative Yoga, we allow our bodies to relax fully into each pose; you may feel a very mild stretch but our bodies will be supported the whole time allowing us to sink into a restful and quiet state of mind.
We will hold each pose for between 4-10 minutes, incorporating deeply relaxing pranayama techniques (breathwork) to help us rest even further.
Stress can have all kinds of effects on the body and we don’t want to be living in a constant state of stress. It can affect our brain, nerves, heart and skin to name a few parts of the body, as well as our emotions, sleep and digestion. Restorative yoga poses are effective because they help quieten the mind and the nervous system, bringing relief to areas impacted by high stress.
Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that has been given the modern nickname of ‘yogi sleep’ however, we don’t actually fall asleep in a Yoga Nidra practice. Instead we enter a different state of consciousness and pure awareness. In the Nidra practices, I will guide you through a visualisation, all you have to do is lie there, listen, and let yourself go.
Yoga Nidra takes us on a journey through different frequencies of brainwaves, including our ‘deep sleep’ or DELTA brainwaves, except we are aware and awake the whole time. Studies have shown that practising Yoga Nidra can improve sleep, cognition, learning and memory. So doing these practices at lunch you may notice a difference in your work in the afternoon!
You will finish each session feeling calmer, more connected, and refreshed. Feeling the call to join us?
“Lucy’s class is an essential part of my week. Her classes are refreshing, varied and calming. They leave me feeling very relaxed and centered. I sleep better after her classes.” Suhana
A few years ago, I was working in an office dealing with complaints and appeals. We were an overstretched team dealing distressing issues and I came home most nights and burst into tears. When I wasn’t working I was tense, irritable and just not myself. Then someone suggested I started practising yoga. Desperate to find a way to cope with all these negative feelings and emotions, I bought a yoga mat and joined an online yoga platform. I have never looked back. Over the years I have found yoga to be the most effective way to help me let go and de-stress. It calmed my mind and soothed my nervous system in a way I had never experienced before.
I now see my time in that job as a blessing because it brought me to where I am today, but I still remember what those days felt like! I’m passionate about sharing the practices that helped me because I understand how stressful life can be and we all could do with more rest and recovery.
The first time I experienced a Yoga Nidra practice, I felt as though I was sinking into the floor beneath me. I felt so utterly supported and relaxed, as my mind entered a whole new state of consciousness. Coupled with the gentle softness of Restorative Yoga, I am so excited to bring you the course to help you experience these practices from the comfort of your own home.
“Absolute bliss: lovely, lovely experience. I’m addicted to Lucy’s classes.” Lottie
